Getting Re-Energized
Do you ever find yourself wanting a “do-over?” Have you ever felt like you’ve made the wrong choice, made a bad decision, said the wrong thing and you wish you could take it all back? I’m sure we’ve all felt like that at some point in our lives. We are all here today on the first day of the week to do just that. This is our chance to look back on our previous week of school, work, events and activities and see how we could have done better. We come to get “re-energized” and “refocused” on our Lord and the lives we should live in Him. We get a chance to start a new week fresh and ready to serve the Lord.
I’m thankful for the chance God has given us to gather together and get our minds focused on Him. We all have busy schedules and we all tend to lose our focus on God, but it’s amazing what a few hours of Bible study, singing, praying and fellowship can do. It helps get us through the next week. It helps encourage me to be a better person and a better Bible student. I’ve heard it said that Sundays are like a tall glass of water after a long day out in the sun. It’s refreshing, re-energizing, and rejuvenating.
I urge you, brethren, if you ever feel like you just can’t possibly go on any longer, if you can’t seem to keep control of what’s going on around you, if life just seems to never give you a break, remember that the Lord will provide your strength and refuge! “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song” (Ps 28:7). The Lord is where we find joy. It’s the Lord where we can find the strength to press on through whatever the world may throw at us. And what better place to get that strength than with the brethren at worship service? David wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord’” (Ps 122:1).
We understand that Gatorade, Powerade, Vitamin Water, etc., all help us re-energize after a long, hard workout. Then why don’t we let the Lord re-energize us after a long, hard week of being in the world? There is no better place to be on Sundays and Wednesdays than at worship, worshiping with the saints. Not because we have to, but because we get to approach God in song, in prayer, in study, and we get to give Him our worries and cares. The Lord’s day is the best day of the week!
