Does God Exist?
Yesterday we looked at the story of the elaborate online hoax involving Joel Osteen. Osteen was quoted as saying he is leaving the faith. His reasons were he doesn’t believe in God anymore and he doesn’t believe the Bible to be historically accurate. It has since come out that Osteen never said these things, but instead a “fan” that wanted to get his attention. However, sadly, too many people are using these two excuses to leave the faith or never come to the faith in the first place. How can we combat these two lies? How can we talk to people about the existence of God and the accuracy of the Bible? What I will write will be simple and is by no means everything that can be said on the topic. Does God exist? Too many people ask this same question and never find a definite answer. I’ve been doing a little bit of studying on the topic over the past few weeks and I am astonished how much science there is to prove the accuracy of the scriptures. As John was writing his eyewitness account of the life of Jesus, he made sure to start from the very beginning. Not just the beginning of the earthly life, but from the beginning of life as we know it. He said, “all things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3).
Jesus was there at the beginning, He was with God, and He was God. God created the heavens and the earth; so by piecing the puzzle pieces together, we know that Jesus was an essential part of the creation of this world. Without God, where would we be? God has given us so much beauty and love. Look around you today and ask yourself what we would be without God? Scientists like to think that without God, we would still be here. Our world would be exactly the same without God. As a Christian, I look around and I see that without God, we would have no earth and no life. God is the reason I am here. God is the reason we have the beauty of the earth. God is the reason we have the beauty of nature and the beauty of life. Paul told the Romans, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). We are without excuse when it comes to the existence of God. How can you look at the mountains and not see God’s craftsmanship? How can you look at the oceans, the skies, the rivers, the trees and not see God’s beauty? The existence of God is clearly seen.
It’s amazing that science is starting to prove facts that the Bible has proven long ago. Scientists have to back track on predictions and hypotheses because they are realizing that the universe has evidence of a beginning. Even “Big Bang” theorists are admitting that the bang had to start somewhere, and who was there to start it? Science has proven that there is something responsible for all that we have: they just don’t know what. There is something more “out there.” The Bible tells us that it was God. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are the reason we have our beautiful world and our amazing lives.
God is good all the time. God has been good for all eternity. God exists. God is love. Take a moment to thank Him for all He’s done for you.
