One Month Left

It’s hard to imagine that there is just one month left in the year. The year seems to have gone by so fast, as it always does. First, it’s June and the next thing you know we are carving a turkey and getting our holiday shopping done.

Older parents will understand this especially. They will tell you that it seems like yesterday when their children were small and running around. Then came high school, college, weddings and grandkids. We are left wondering, “where had the time gone?”

The Scriptures speak of this concept in regard to our life span. James uses the expression, “like a vapor that appears for a while and then vanishes away.” In Psalms, life is compared to a weaver’s shutter that goes back and forth through the loom. Fast. Rapid. Flying by.

All these things bring up some important lessons.

First, the good we need to do needs to be done. Time runs out and it doesn’t get done. Remember the visit to the nursing home you were going to make? How about the family you were going to invite over? The card you were going to send? We get busy. We get sidetracked. We get interrupted. Things happen. Those good ideas get put on the back burner and somehow they don’t get done. Make a list of the things you want to do for others. Then start doing them. Check them off the list as you go.

Second, a lifetime is made up of individual days. Days become weeks, which turn into months, then years, then a lifetime. We are building a lifetime one day at a time. Are you where you want to be spiritually? Are you growing? Are you walking in righteousness? Are there habits that you need to stop and others you need to start? When are you going to do it?

Isaiah told King Hezekiah to “put your house in order” because he was going to die. That’s a bold statement, but it’s true of us as well. There is an appointment that we have with death (Heb. 9:27). It will come. Are there things you need to apologize for to your family? Are things right between you and God?

A joyous life is made up of joyous days. A content life is made up of content days. A righteous life is made up of righteous days.

Can we help you get going? Sometimes all a person needs is a push to get his car out of the snow. We need that spiritually. Someone to help us and be there for us.
