Knowing Nothing But Christ
1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”
Today’s world is full of information. Everyone needs to know the latest and greatest information. We all have phones, tablets, and computers that will download anything we need at the touch of a button. There is something about human nature where we need to know as much as we can about everything. It doesn’t take long for gossip to spread through the office or through school. We are intrigued by the latest headlines and “juicy” stories. If we aren’t careful, we can become so concerned with everything this world is shoving down our throats and forget about our faith in Jesus Christ.
When Paul was with the church in Corinth he reminded them that he was determined to know nothing among the church except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I love that attitude and I think many Christians would do well to have that same mindset. Paul was not concerned with the drama and arguments that sneak into the church. Paul was not concerned with the gossip that goes around. Paul was only concerned about one thing: Jesus Christ. His goal was to teach Jesus Christ to anyone who wanted to listen. His goal was to affectively spread the Gospel so that everyone can share in the glory of Jesus Christ. He wanted to spread the word about the Lord’s crucifixion and resurrection.
Paul was working too hard to get involved with everything else that was going on. Paul definitely proved himself as worker for the Lord. His reputation could speak for itself. He was someone who loved Christ and wanted to share that love with his brothers and sisters in Christ. Do we share that same mindset and attitude? Are we concerned with all the latest and greatest information of the world or are we concerned with spreading the Gospel of Christ? Are we concerned with the latest gossip that’s going around or are we more concerned with teaching other people about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
Take a moment today to see where your mindset is. Take a moment to see if you are someone who can say you are determined to know nothing except Jesus and Him crucified. It’s time we start making Jesus the center of our lives. It’s time we start making Jesus the reason for everything we do.
